We were all on time, and Brett calmly stood at the tropical flower arch, probably sweating in his tux, to wait for Michelle to come down the aisle. She was beautiful and happy, and the short ceremony was very sweet with two readings from close friends.
The reception was also at the resort and was fantastic. It was casual, fun, and Brett even MC´d his own reception. Brett also had made a slideshow for Michelle as a surprise, and the best part was when he juxtaposed respective photos from their childhoods that were nearly identical - both of them holding a fish on a line, both of them in their Halloween costumes, and the best one, both of them posing strong man style with biceps flexed.
We had two hours of dancing, fueled by Sangria and Imperial beer, until it was time to head to the villa for the after-party. Tamer than most nights, people actually put on their swimsuits before going in the water and most of us were in bed by 1 or 2am. I was bartender for a while (that´s why I have money in my dress in some of the pictures, in case you were wondering!) making rum and cokes and margaritas (Michelle and my drink of choice for the evening).
Saturday was leaving day, but we all gathered for lunch at the resort and then the majority of us piled into the Turismo van to go back to San Jose that afternoon. The ride seemed much longer than coming to Manuel Antonio, and once I got to the hotel where everyone else was staying in Alajuela, I decided to stay too. I just didn´t have the energy to get in taxi to go and stay in a crappy hostel! It ended up being the right choice financially and fun-wise and it was super convenient for me to meet up with Rachel and her aunt and uncle at the International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
Next post...Nosara, Nicoya Peninsula!
